Envision with Color

We all have our favorite colors, but have you ever noticed how certain colors make you feel a certain way? Choosing the right color combination can be one of the most intimidating steps for a home or business owner. It's about personal taste and creating a mood that can alter your experience. It's all around us, how and what we feel varies from everyone. Paint color has the potential to influence our state of mind and psychology. Think about how certain colors can influence emotion and give us a sense of serenity and calmness, where other colors can suddenly make us feel uncomfortable or even induce passion. Your feelings about colors are often personal and rooted in your culture.

There are three primary lighting sources: direct, indirect, and artificial. It's important you choose colors under the right lighting conditions because it has the power to change the shape and size of a room. Don't be afraid to experiment. No one will spend more time in your home than you will, so it's important to choose colors that you love.

Tips & Advice

Color Flow

If you want your artwork & furniture to be the focal point of the room, stay away from bold paint colors. Pick a wall color from a piece that will combine the elements together.

Visual Weight

Light-colored ceilings will usually make the height of the room appear larger. Dark-colored ceilings would direct back to head level, focusing on the walls & furnishings.

What is Sheen?

Flat: ideal for low-traffic areas, hides minor surface imperfections.

Eggshell: provides excellent coverage that is washable (family rooms)

Semi-gloss: ensures maximum durability (bathrooms, kitchens, trim)

High-gloss: highlights details, high volume of traffic (trim, decorative moldings, doors, etc.)

Illusion

For narrow rooms, consider painting the end walls a darker shade than the long walls. Darker colors will retreat & create an illusion of width. Light colors will advance.
